The goal of Keep Sherwood Beautiful “Yard of the Month” program is to recognize the efforts of Sherwood residents who demonstrate a clear and consistent desire to maintain or improve their properties and whose efforts are a model and inspiration for the neighborhood or others to follow.
Program Details
Keep Sherwood Beautiful “Yard of the Month” program is administered for the months of April through September. All nominations must be received to Keep Sherwood Beautiful office by the 25th of the prior month. Example: All yards to be considered for the April award must have nominations submitted by April 25th.
A "Holiday" program will be during the months of October through December. All the same criteria below for yards will still apply with the added decorations for that months holiday.
Submitting nominations
Anyone may submit a nomination form to Keep Sherwood Office at: 2303 East Lee Ave., Sherwood, AR 72120. Send an email to ksb.barnhardt@sbcglobal.net When submitting a nomination provide the following information; the name and complete address of property nominated with a brief sentence or two why the nominee should be selected as “Yard of the Month”. Nominations that do not give the address cannot be judge. A picture of the home may be submitted and would be appreciated.
The overall goal of the “Yard of the Month” Program is to recognize individuals whose property exemplifies and promotes beautification and pride as an example for the Sherwood community.
We envision a clean and beautiful city where all citizens value as well as protect natural resources taking responsibility for enhancing their community environment.
Judges will use the general criteria below when choosing “Yard of the Month”. These are only guidelines and the final decision is based on the evidence of the homeowner and business owner's pride.
- Yard is well-groomed.
- Yard is attractive; pleasing to the eye (e.g. green lawn; a variety of plants such as trees, shrubs, ground cover, flowers, wildflowers; plants with a variety of heights, textures, and colors; landscape features such as fountains, large rocks in beds, etc.).
- Buildings, fences, porches, and patios on the property are in good repair (i.e. minimal distraction from the landscape due to deterioration, damage or construction).
- Extra consideration may be given to properties that have invested extra effort through the use of attractive art pieces (e.g. pottery, ironwork), potted plants, birdhouses, patio or lawn furniture, windsocks, decorative mailboxes, etc.
- Yard is free of litter, junk and debris (no appliances or indoor furniture on porches or patios).
- Yard is free of junked or inoperable vehicles.
- House numbers are displayed attractively.
- Only the portion of the yard viewed from the street will be judged.
One home will be selected each month from each of the 4 wards and one business in the city limits. Each yard will be limited to winning the award only once in any calendar year. (Map of Sherwood, AR wards)
